You want your room to feel:

Cozy

A cozy mood creates a sense of contentment. It’s that feeling you get when you snuggle up under a blanket with a good book. It’s what happens when you settle in, forget the fuss of everyday life and realise there’s no place you’d rather be.

Expert Insights

These tips will help bring to life the mood you’re looking to create in your home.

Soften Your Space

Keep a few favourite blankets in a large woven basket in your family room instead of storing them in a closet. The blankets will be easier for you to grab when you want to snuggle up and the blanket-filled basket will add a wonderfully cosy feel to your space.

Fluff It Up

Plush, overstuffed floor pillows and poufs add a fun dose of colour and pattern and are perfect for impromptu extra seating. Use them to gather around a board game or pile them up and settle in for a nap.

Ottoman Turned Table

Use an upholstered ottoman instead of a typical coffee table in your family room. A soft ottoman invites you to put your feet up and nestle into the couch, and it’s sturdy enough to hold a tray full of your favourite snacks, whether it’s popcorn for family movie night, or big bowls of vanilla ice cream to celebrate the start of the weekend.

The Softest Seats

Use a real or faux fur rug to cover a chair for a cosy lived-in look that beckons guests to come in and take a seat.

Vanilla Room

Create a cosy room by matching white picture frames against a same-coloured wall. The seamless creamy-dreamy result in the room is something people will want to stay in for as long as possible, like their favourite pyjamas.

Decorative Drink Tray

There’s nothing like cozying into a favourite spot on the couch with your coffee cup in hand. By creating this decorative drink tray, you can stay nestled into the couch with your drink right beside you instead of having to go back and forth to the coffee table for each sip!

Supplies list:

Decorative Drink Tray

A small tray or cake pan

A piece of fabric about the size of your tray

Chalk or a marker for tracing

Optional: Paint

If you want to change the colour of your tray, start by scuffing up the sides of it using fine grit sandpaper. Then paint your tray with either two coats of chalk paint or one coat of primer followed by 1-2 coats of latex paint. To make the decorative tray liner, pick a fabric that you love and that works well with the other colours and patterns in your home. Centre your tray over the area of the fabric that you want to use and trace around the tray with chalk or a marker:

Cut out your fabric along the inside of your marked lines, seal the edges of the fabric with a seam sealant that stops fraying, and spray it with a silicone waterproofing spray. After the fabric is dry, place it in the bottom of your pan, grab your favourite drink, and then snuggle into the couch with your own personal decorative drink tray!
